Derek H (December 2009) Having finish watching the rugby match, we were walking into city centre for a meal. We came across Shivalli, featuring an unusual cusine. I must say,it took us by surprise. The food served was beyond our expectation. We thoroughly enjoyed the authentic vegetarian food. My kids enjoyed the long pancake mixed with potato curry (Masala Dosa) and we had Shivalli Special Thali. We will be definitely revisiting Shivalli to try other dishes.
Chris B (November 2009) I was tempted to visit the restaurant after reading such great reviews. I have to say that i was not at all disappointed. The food is spiced just right and the masala dosa is a treat on the taste buds. I hadn’t eaten this type of food before and I am so glad i found Shivalli, as I am now a regular. The staff are efficient and helpful and the food comes to the table quickly, piping hot and tasty. Best of all is the price, its almost an injustice to pay so little for such great food. Atmosphere is always buzzing and there are always people in the queue to sample the delights on offer. I am vegetarian so its great for me but my friends and family aren't. However they all agreed who needs meat when vegetables can taste like this. Long live Shivalli.......
Emly H (October 2009) I have been to Shivalli many times since it opened, as it is near where I work and the lunchtime buffet menu is very good value at £4.95 for starter, main and dessert (and all you can eat, at that!). The food is prepared to a high standard, and there is a lot of choice for vegans. Sometimes the buffet dessert is vegan, sometimes not (it is best to ask which dishes are vegan), but they are happy to provide a seperate vegan pudding if the one included in the buffet is not suitable. This could be vegan ice cream, or (better!) a light semolina pudding which has crushed pineapple and cashew nuts in it, and is very pleasant.
Cheryl C (August 2009) I’ve recently (August 2009) enjoyed two meals out at new restaurant Shivalli, Welford Road, Leicester. The restaurant is entirely vegetarian with plenty of vegan options. The first visit was lunch with two friends, where we ate from a wonderful buffet selection which included popadoms, starters with chutneys several main dishes and a dessert. The second occasion was for an evening meal for a large group (30+) of people. Because of our number we were served buffet-style at our tables (very efficiently). The food is fresh and full flavoured without being too hot or oily and the staff are friendly and helpful. Pricewise they are very reasonable. They are fully licensed and there is a wine list. Décor-wise Shivalli is stylishly wood panelled around the walls and floor and has modern wooden tables. The place is lit with smart recessed downlights and a sparkling silver chandelier. Parking is easy at the Newark Street car park just around the corner. Well worth a vist.
